Can updates be downloaded in a file instead of "auto update"?

I'm behind a firewall at work and can't get the autoupdate to work. Can I get
just the update file for download for Defender?

Sure, see Engel's posts for each update in the Signatures newsgroup. The
filename changes for each update so Engel kindly documents this for the
newsgroup reader's benefit, the latest being:

http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...c423076d19.exe
