was the whole disk compressed?

windows will compress files that
are not regularly used but these
are individual files and not the whole disk.

simply opening the files, using them
and saving them to a different location
will un do them

Try using this command form the command prompt window:

COMPACT /U /S /A /I /F *.*

Use "*" instead of "*.*". "*.*" does not catch files or directories
that do not have an extension; CMD.EXE is not the same as COMMAND.COM
from the old DOS/Win9x/ME days.
