It depends on the scanner. Network-capable scanners cost many thousands
of dollars (US) and are normally used in corporations.

Cheapest solution I found was to get an old pc . Put on a windows 98 or Me
installation. Add scanner software , and share a directory. Set software up
if it allows to auto save into a sharded folder.

There's nothing in windows that can share a scanner.

Some scanners can be connected directly to the network, and accessed
remotely. For example, our large Canon photocopier / printers are also
network scanners. They can also scan into a remote server shared folder.

Some domestic grade scanners may provide software which does this,
and there are a few 3-rd party utilities too.

For example:
http://www.remote-scan.com/download-free-client.php

In practice, remote scanning is not that great. You still need to walk to
the scanner and insert the document, then walk back to your PC to run the
scan, then go back to the scanner to retrieve the document.

A good way to do what you need is to have the scanner hooked to one machine
and configure it to scan into a shared folder which can then be accessed by
all the other machines.

Hi Scanners
Regular Scanners are Not Network Devices and can not be shared.
As mention above by Malke, you need to buy a Scanner that is Network
capable.
Brothers Brand has sub $200 All in One unit that includes a scanner and it
is Network enabled.
Example:

Other Brands have similar Hardware. There are 3rd party software, and
specialty Hardware that can make a regular scanner Network able.
Unfortunately these solution are more expensive to the extend that you are
better of buying a New Network Capable scanner.
