I've seen a number of problems related to this but have not been able to
solve my particular error message. Here is what I see when I try to receive
e-mail now:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.upcmail.ie', Server:
'pop3.upcmail.ie', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have tried to make this work by turning off the spysweeper e-mail
attachment blocker and by changing the e-mail server settings. Hope someone
can help.

why are you using port 995 and SSL?
I don't see on this site where you need them...

Dave,

Now, if I uncheck the box for "this user requires secure connection (SSL)",
and then try to receive my mail off the server, then I get this error:

Account: 'pop3.upcmail.ie', Server: 'smtp.upcmail.ie', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR An authentication mechanism MUST be entered', Port:
110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Now what?
Thanks
Kurt

I'm not familiar with your ISP, but from looking at the help page,

smtp.upcmail.ie is the Outgoing server, and the port is normally 25.
pop3.upcmail.ie is the Incoming server, and the port is normally 110

Make sure you have the proper server name and port in the proper places.

Dave,

Thanks. Looks like I got it now. I changed the advanced setting back to
pop3, where I started. Then I unchecked the SSL setting in the advanced tab.
Finally, and this must have been the trick, I unchecked the secure
authentification required box in the servers tab.

Very Happy now.
