Can send but not receive Hotmail in Outlook 2007

I have just installed Office 2007 and after installing all updates I
downloaded Outlook Connector so that I can use my Hotmail account. I can
send e-mail using the Hotmail account but not receive it.
If I click on the (E-Mail Removed) folder I get this error: The set of
folders cannot be opened. The server is not available. Contact your
administrator if this condition persists!
I also have a BT account that works perfectly. Please could somebody
suggest a solution? I am running Windows Vista and Office Standard 2007.

I have the same problem. Using Windows 7, Office 2007, installed all updates
recc by Microsoft, installed 12.1 Connector on 2 October 2009. Configured
Connector for my hotmail address. Originally when this occurred a pile of
emails came down but not the last month's worth (I am missing about 50) and
no new ones came through.I tried rerunning connector and reconfiguring but no
change. I can send ok and message goes into sent box but I can not receive
into Outlook (the mails remain only on the hotmail server).

My other domain names work fine through Outlook 2007. It's just hotmail
sending that is the problem.

Do you get any errors? Did you try removing the account and recreating it?

Thanks for coming back to me so quickly. I get no errors. the send and
receive just shows "Processing" although it isn't!
I have tried removing the hotmail account in the Email Accounts settings,
entering it as a new account and then restarting. This removes the emails
downloaded from hotmail, then they come again but only those up to 1 sept
2009. Any received since on hotmail or any test ones I send myself via my
other accounts do not come into Outlook.

Nothing since Sept 1 is downloaded? That's the date they turned off HTTP
protocol and made everyone use POP3 or the connector. I wonder if something
is goofy server side.

Ok I read another user with the same problem - not known what ports the
connector uses or how it works and therefore whether ISP could be blocking.

Can I go back to using Pop3? If so, what ports do I need to use? I have
tried the default ones but they don't work for the incoming

thanks

Yes, you can use POP3 with port 995, only HTTP was disabled.

From http://www.slipstick.com/problems/msn_denied.asp:

Incoming server name: pop3.live.com
Outgoing server: smtp.live.com

While setting up the account, click on the More Settings button and on
Outgoing Mail Servers tab, select the My server requires authentication box.
Most people will need to use the default option of Use same settings as my
incoming server.

Click the Advanced tab, and under Server Port Numbers, enter the following
information:
· In the Incoming mail (POP3) box, type 995.
· In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box, type 587.
· Under both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3), select the
‘requires secure connection (SSL)’ check box. In Outlook 2007, choose Auto;
use SSL for Outlook 2003
· Under Delivery, select the Leave a copy of messages on server check box if
you want to see your messages when you use Hotmail in a web browser, your
mobile phone, or other e-mail programs. By default, Outlook will delete the
messages from the Hotmail server when they are downloaded to your computer.
