How can I select and batch import file names

I have a database for storing references to photos (a photo index).
Currently the only way I have found to import/link the photo name is by
either using hyper link or manually added the name. This has two major
problems: 1-not portable if hyper link is used 2-can only link/add one photo
at a time. Is there a way to display and select a group of names and then
batch import into the database?
