Hi,

I have a Wireless Home network setup in my house. Each runs xp. When I
look at "view workgroup computers" within My network places I can see
all three computers in my "Home" workgroup. However I can't connect to
one of the computers. I can see it but I'm told that i don't have the
required privileges to connect. Ironically, if I type the address of a
share on this computer I have no problem connecting ie.
\\windowspc\share. Can anyone tell me whats wrong. It used to work
before but it all of a sudden just stopped.

Thanks

Brian,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are other
possibilities too. Read this article with an open mind.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

This is consistent with RestrictAnonymous being wrong.
This will prevent anonymous enumeration of shares, but not access to those
shares.

So under Simple File Sharing, you will get 'Access Denied' when you try to
look at the list of shares on the machine, but you can access the shares
themselves.

Try this for a fix:

On the machine you are trying to contact, ( 'main machine' ) go to:

start | Run | type 'Regedit' in the box.

On the left hand pane, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA\

In the LSA folder, look in the right-hand pane.
look for the value 'RestrictAnonymous'.

It needs to be zero.
If it is not, double-click it and set it to zero.

( The value of RestrictAnonymousSam can be left at 1. )

Close regedit, and re-boot the server machine.

See if that helps.

Hi Rob,

Sorry for the inconvenience. I pulled this thread initially cause I had
used my proper email address. Could you please edit your message and
remove the reference to my email. I've already thanked you in the other
thread but i'll say thanks again. It worked a treat

Thanks
