Where can I SAFELY download Microsoft JVM?

For IE6 on a Windows 2000 Pro computer, I need to install a Java VM.

The Sun JVM is slooow, and eats CPU power like crazy.

I know that the MS website doesn't allow direct download of the JVM anymore. Now, there
are many websites claiming to have the MS JVM, I'm not sure I trust them, so can someone
show me a SAFE download location?

Thanks!

Tony

You probably (still) have MS Java VM installed. See

Interesting... from a Command Prompt, I can type JVIEW and get a response.

But when I go to /downloaded program files, it's not there!

My problem is that Java applets do not work in IE6 ever since I uninstalled Sun Java (it
didn't go back to using MS Java).

It was installed when Windows 2000 was installed.

Java-enabled and Java applet-enabled are not the same thing.

Is %system%\Program Files\Java <= this folder [not JavaVM] present? If so,
what is/are the name(s) of its subfolders (and STOP HERE)?
========================
If that folder's not found, you need to install Sun Java runtimes v1.6.0_03.

* Open an Internet Explorer (only) window and go to
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp > In the middle of the page,
click on the Download button to the right of "Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
6u3" > If Information Bar pop-ups up, right-click on it and say it's OK to
display the blocked content.

You do NOT have to install the Java Web Start ActiveX Control!

* Accept the license agreement > Click on "Windows (XP,Vista, .etc) Offline
Installation, Multi-language" and Save the file jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe
to your desktop; do not Run it.

* When the download is complete, *close all browser windows* and
double-click on the saved file to install.

* Delete the downloaded installation file after completing the above
procedure AND reboot if not prompted to do so.

No, C:\ProgramFiles\Java is NOT there

But that's the original problem. Java applets in my browser worked fine (using the MS
JVM) until I installed Sun Java. Then, Sun Java slowed down my browser on my 1GHz
system.

So, I uninstalled Sun Java, but when I did that, it did not go back to using MS JVM in
the browser - Java applets in the browser do not run.

I don't want to install Sun Java (see my original post below) - I want to use MS Java in
my browser. How do I get that back???

Again, Javascript-enabled and Java applet-enabled are not the same things.
If you want Java applets to work, you'll have to install Sun Java runtimes.
Test both here: http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm

Test JavaVM here: http://www.ces.clemson.edu/webct/browser_detect.html

More discussion of this admittedly confusing subject:

DUH!

I never claimed they are!

Do you even understand my issue? Did I even MENTION JavaScript? Are you accusing me of
being that ignorant? Are you even reading what I am writing?

I'm sorry, but are you intentionally completely and totally missing my point???

My original question, which still stands, is about how to enable MICROSOFT Java in my
browser.

For the umpttnth time, I do NOT want to use Sun Java.

Please, it would be most useful if you referred to my original post before providing
information that either is not helpfull, or is just plain wrong.

Victor

You need to download and install it. Hopefully this will be helpful:

http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html

I believe the last version was build 3810 and that's ultimately what you
would want. I believe if you can get any version installed and then visit
WindowsUpdate it will give you the last version. It still doesn't work with
many newer Java sites.
