I've inserted a pdf object into a presentation, but need to change the
orientation and can't do it in the pdf file. Is there a way to make the
change once the object is put into PowerPoint?

Which version of PPT?
When selected, do you see a green handle at the top of your pdf inserted? If
so, just click on it and move your mouse around
