how can I request status of an assigned task in outlook 2003

I was looking for something similar to the "Send Status Report" button on the
toolbar. I assign tasks to people but afetr thay accept I am at their mercy
and I often need to prompt the owner for an update.

In the Customize Current View screen, under the fields section, there is a
task filed called "request status" but this only adds chekcbox and doesn't
seem to really do anything.

Any ideas??
