How can I replace Vista with something that actually works?

Vista is such a worthless program I can not get connected to a secure VPN to
accomplish remote work. From my understanding there are no company's that
will convert to Vista because it doesn't work. How can I get it off my
computer and replace it with Windows XP or some other program that actually
works?
