One of my users tried to install software that did not work; it caused issues
and had to be removed. I tried to roll back to an earlier restore point; but
none worked. Most of the issues were eventually corrected, but there is one
DLL that I am still having difficulties with. Microstation V8 (our primary
drafting software) displays an error with Shell32.dll which was modified at
the time the new software was installed (I have completely uninstalled the
offending app}
Windows XP SP2 auto updates on the workstation daily, so it would take mae
hours to run all of them again if I have to do a repair on windows.
The big question is is there any way that I can replace the Shell32.dll file
on the workstation; and if so, HOW? THanks for any help you can offer!

On the most recent Windows Update from this past Tuesday, there a new
fix that replaced shell32.dll with the latest one. Run Windows Update
and give it a try.

Sure, copy it from an unsullied machine. Can't be any worse...

Oh goody. The other machines are running various Linux's
and a couple of Win98's + a W2k box. Perhaps if I turn up
at your place? Now, back to the question -)

Okay...

If you have any friends with the same OS, get them to send you a copy. It's
about 8 megs (3.2Mb zipped).

Ha ha ha, non-legal copy? Yes, you can always download it from the
security updates page:

No. Not "non-legal" copy!
Your ref. to KB 921398 concerns Bulletin MS06-045 (8/7/2006).
The newer shell32.dll is related to MS07-061. KB 943460 (13/11/2007).
The former is 4 Mb. The latter 8 Mb.
Since the box is not web accessible it's a moot point that it needs
updating at all. But this cannot be guaranteed throughout its life.

Thanks anyway.
