I have a 64-bit, AMD Athalon laptop with XP home edition.
I installed SP2. Now I'm having all sorts of issues with
my computer locking up and I have to shut down wit the
button...task manager won't open. I've tried removing
through Add/Remove programs and Restore to previous state
with both regular and safe boot mode. Neither works.
Add/Remove says an error occurs and cannot. Restore says
no changes have been made to my computer. I would
reinstall XP, but it came on my laptop at purchase and I
don't have installation CD other than my system restore
CD.

What else can I do to uninstall besides rebuilding my
machine?

thanks,
t

I cannot supply an answer for you but can sympathise with you. I do still
have restore points, I can see them all, even the one I created prior to
installing XPSP2 yet when I try to restore to them I have the same 'No
changes have been made to your computer'

Microsoft Knowledge Base article #875355. Not that I'd have
tried as no problems here, though.

Aside from look here ...
%SystemRoot%\$NtServicePackUninstall%\spuninst
....

Visit you laptop's manufacturer page for any hints
regarding SP2.

First though you may try and disable NX and PAE on your
machine and if it works then you may or may not use editbin
or the Compatibility Administrator, are both available
from MS, to make the required adjustments for specific
applications.

Cheers,
Juergen
