You can use MSCONFIG to disable Messenger from starting, or for a more
permanent solution you can use REGEDIT to locate the following Key and
delete the Messenger component (MSMSGS):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Be careful. Editing the Registry can be a problem if you delete the wrong
thing. Suggest you make a backup of the Registry Key before editing. Use
File>Export to save the Key as a REG file.
