How can I refresh the Java engine?

I've got a situation where, on one of 3 computers, I'm not able to get to a
particular page on a website. Internet Options/Security, Privacy are
"medium", ans on other PCs where I can get to the page, and Content Advisor
is disabled.
The vendor isn't available til Monday.
I'm hypothesizing that it might have to do with having the wrong Java
engine???? Once, long ago and far away, I had installed an alternate Java
engine, and that caused problems, and IT guys at work messed around, and I'm
not sure how it was left. The PC has been given to my granddaughter, and we
don't need anything except pure vanilla on it.
This PC is running Windows 2000. The other two are running XP. I don't
have access to the 2000 disk right now.

Any suggestions about
1 - What to do, in general?
2 - How to get back to a vanilla Java environmnet?

TIA
Laurel
