I was backing up my Word2007 files to a USB memory stick, and I accidently
copied the old file versions from the USB stick to the computer, rather than
the other way around, so the old versions of these files replaced the newer
versions. Of course I received the warning about how doing so would
"replace" the files with the same names already on the computer, and I
authorized it, not yet having realized what I had done. Can I recover the
prior versions of those Word files? I assume they are still on the C: drive
somewhere; that the version I don't want was copied to separately to that
drive, using the same file name. I tried Undelete-Plus but it did not find
the old files.

nope.
That's why it's always a good idea to make multiple backups.
if you overwrote the newer files, then that data is gone.

I am unsure why you are assuming the old version of the files are somewhere
on your C:\ drive.

You may want to purchase Undelete and have it running in the background to
help you out in the future. ;-)

I suppose there is a possibility that the files are still stored in the temp
folder. Check here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827099/en-us
I wouldn't get my hopes up too high though.

Shenan if the files where originally saved on C then remnants will still be
there. Serious undelete software might recover them.

It's a bit late to say this now, but yeah, it's always a good idea to
have some file recovery software that keeps track of version changes
and deleted files, running on your system at all times. Very, very
helpful in recovering deleted data quickly in case of an emergency
rather than looking for a fix after the incident. Also useful in cases
where the (deleted) file was modified after the last backup, and no
current copy exists intact.

With Vista you CAN recover deleted from the recycle bin files

just right click on the folder the file was in...the look at previous
versions


Note: This will only work if system restore is enabled (It's enabled by
default)

It will only work if there is an actual restore point...

you can make one manually....but one is also created with a reboot.

If the file was created...then deleted prior to a restore point...
then you will need to shut the machine down at once and use undelete
software

Not unless you had them backed up somewhere else; they've been overwritten.
