Tried reinstalling office, setting up new mail account but am unable to send.
Sent items sit in outbox. Get error meesage that outlook cannot connect to
outgoing server. Settings seem correct. Test message will not work unless
I change port settings from 25 to 587. But still cannot send messages.
Outlook express seems to work fine. I've read the discussion page to
exhaustion...Please help.

Outlook 2003. Exact message reads
Task 'Mail - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook is unable to
connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive
this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

Steve,
On the port settings page for the Comcast mail acct also check the box for
encryption for just the outgoing server port? Try that. I have seen Port 587
chosen for Comcast SMTP server. I have also seen Port 465 used, and I am
using this with my Comcast Mail accounts in both Outlook2003 and Outlook
Express. If you can't get Port 587 to work try Port 465 for the outgoing
server port setting, and check the box for encryption.
