Greetings,
Are you just using Windows Messenger built-in to Windows XP? If so, you might want to
consider installing MSN Messenger 6.x instead, simply because it has the ability to send
files through a greater majority of situations (even uses a dynamic port range besides the
6891-6900 range), allows UPnP-enabled file transfer and file transfers through the MSN
Messenger server itself. You can find MSN Messenger here:

If you'd rather not upgrade to MSN Messenger, or that is what you're using, instead of giving
out a 5000 word essay on every possible reason you could be seeing this problem -- are you
using a router and do you have any sort of third-party firewall installed?
