Can I re-install Vista on a PC (that has its own product key) using another PC's Vista installation disc?

I have a desktop PC with Vista Home Premium installed together with its own
Vista product key but a misplaced Vista disc.

I also have a laptop with Vista Home Premium installed from an OEM disc.

As I have misplaced the desktops original Vista disc, can I use the laptops
Vista Home Premium OEM disc to freshly install Vista on my desktop but use
the desktops original product key?

Probably not. Most OEM disks are "locked" to a particular brand, and
sometimes a particular model.

You should contact the manufacturer to obtain a replacement.

If it's a true installation DVD, it should work. Before starting,
though, be sure to have downloaded and saved to CD all of the necessary
PC's hardware component's device drivers, as these (unless very generic
in nature) aren't likely to be on the laptop's installation DVD.

On the other hand, if it's an OEM Recovery Disk that came with the
laptop, it probably won't work. Such disks are usually designed by the
manufacturer to install only upon the specific make/model with which
they are purchased. Be that as it may, it certainly couldn't hurt to try.

If the dvd is a Microsoft hologrammed OEM dvd then it will work. You can
use that dvd with the desktop's product key. If the dvd is a branded OEM
dvd then it may not work but give it a try. If it is a recovery dvd it will
not work.
