was wondering if one can recall or delete an email sent to someone by mistake
before they read it?

Nope, unless you are connected to the same Exchange server then limited
options are available.

It's possible but there is no guarantee that it will work especially if
you're not in an Exchange environment (business). Open the sent item, Click
on Action, Click on Recall This Message.
