Yes, you can, but the method depends on your configuration.
Best to post full details of your disk structure.

If you have the drivers for your hardware for Windows Me, yes.

I have a separate copy of win ME which I would like to put on a separate
partition on the HD to use only for specific older work programs that do not
work under XP. I have fat32 on the current system as well.

Is your Windows XP system partition FAT32 or NTFS?

A simple way of doing what you want to do is to install WinME
in Microsoft's Virtual PC running under WinXP - see here:

WinME does not support more than 512MB of ram. If you are running more ram
than that then consider running ME in a virtual machine using VPC. Also, if
you are using a recent mobo the chipset drivers may not support running
Win9x/ME.

If you run ME in a virtual machine then you do not have to reboot to switch
operating systems. You just run your ME virtual machine as a window on your
XP desktop. It is easily your most flexible solution.

What's the drawback of using VPC (as compared to trying to install ME or 98
the regular way)? Just that you have to have enough memory to run both
apps?

Virtual PC would be slower, which is probably not an issue with
a fairly new PC.

I think I mentioned this before, but on the VPC web page, unless I've missed
it, nowhere does it say it will run on Win XP Home Edition.

But someone here (maybe you?) mentioned that it could and would. But it's
kinda strange they won't even state it there. (Maybe they don't want to
support it?)
