Everything was working perfectly and suddenly the 2 POP3 accounts I have
running on Windows Mail (with Windows Vista) stopped working. Have tried to
remove the accounts and add them from scratch, installed Windows Live Mail
(then uninstalled) and same error message continues to appear: "Your server
has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include
server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject
'sera que funciona?', Account: 'UOL', Server: 'smtps.uol.com.br', Protocol:
SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number:
0x800CCC0F".
So, what should I do to have POP3 email back to work with Windows Mail ?

This often happens when your connection to the server goes through equipment
belonging to more than one internet provider along the way. Such
connections
to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for spammers. If this is the
problem,
you need to check with uol.com.br as to whether their outgoing email server
listens to any port other than port 25 for outgoing mail, and if so, the
details of
how to switch over to the other port.

Also, if you are using certain antivirus programs, such as most of those
from
Norton or McAfee, or a recent one from Trend, you may have to uninstall it,
not just disable it. Problems from these seldom show up immediately.

You may then want to install a replacement antivirus program. I recommend
either avast! or AVG for home use, either one with a custom install that
tells
it to leave out the part that scans email, or NOD32 for business use:

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff

http://www.eset.com/

Also, check if outgoing messages are piling up in your Outbox instead of
being sent. If so, try to delete the oldest one or move it to the Drafts
folder. If it won't do either, download and install this fix, with Windows
Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first.
