Using IE 5.5 and 6 with public use computers, is there a way to simply
prevent IE from keeping history at all? We have a program that clears them
on reboot, but that only happens once a day. I need something to prevent any
history at all.
Thanks!

If I block access to c:\windows\history it appears to work. This is for
Win98SE.

Try the following and see if it helps:

Disable History - Don't want to keep history

Tools>Internet Options>General tab
In the Number of days to keep History window, set it to zero

Then on General tab > Click the Clear History tab
Click Delete Files tab
Click Delete Cookies tab
Click Apply

Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

The temporary I.E. files folder is a cache for web pages that you have
visited. I don't know why Microsoft sets the default so high, but I have
seen 2gb set for storage. This and other setting can be changed to decreace
the size of the storage area, and supposedly delete the I.E. temp file when
you close the browser.

Also, disable Autocomplete

Tools>Internet Options>Content tab>click Autocomplete
Uncheck all the boxes for features you don't want to use
Click Apply
Then OK

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

When did Windows 98SE get support for NTFS so you can define file
permissions?
