I know this isn't the group, but I don't know what the right group is.

My venerable CD writer now gets 100% "Power calibration errors." It can no
longer burn CDs. It's a Creative CD-RW RW8432E. Is it dead? If so, I will
replace it with a DVD-R. I believe they can burn both DVDs and CDs?

Replace it with a DVD+/-RW.
