Can play DVD (video_ts) from HD but NOT from external HD

I have copied my DVD's to my HD and can play them from there no problem!
But when I move them to my external HD (USB or Firewire) I get the message
like: "Incompatible Disc And Decoder Regions"!
In XP this was no problem but in Vista it does not work, how come?
