Hello all,

* Outlook 2002
* Exchange 5.5

I would like to setup a departmental calendar that gets updated by
individual users calendars, is this possible?

The reason for this is so that that when a users enters their holiday
dates into their own calendar the departmental calendar is also
updated. I would also like the departmental calendar to show the
username instead of just showing 'Holiday'.

I'm aware that appointments can be copied from one calendar to another
but this leaves two seperate appointments.

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

Please do not post to so many groups. Pick one or two appropriate ones.

You would have to write code to copy appointments from a private store to a
public store and vice versa or have the code move the private appointments
or whatever you want to do.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, ONLY POST TO ONE and ONLY ONE NEWSGROUP.

(In a softer voice...)
You'll probably want to look around some of MS's workgroup-related
products. I seem to vaguely recall one that displayed multiple calendars
as one, however that was back in 2001 and my memory's not that great.

OH!
If the information is sent as a MEETING REQUEST to the group calendar it
will show on the personal calendar and the group calendar as well. It
will be up to the owner of the group calendar to APPROVE the meeting,
but then that might not be that bad of a thing. Plus, I think that the
group calendar can be setup to automatically accept meeting requests.

First and foremost I posted this message to five groups all in the
microsoft.public. tree, I hardly call this mass crossposting. Please
don't be too sniffy about this in future ;-) I will in future
however only post to the microsoft.public.outlook forum.

(In a much softer voice)
Thanks for your advice. I like the sound of inviting the group
calendar to a meeting. Like you said, The departmental manager could
then approve or refuse requests.

Many thanks
Dave.

The issue with posting to multiple newsgroups is two-fold. First, you
have to check all five (or however many groups you posted to) to find
your answer. Second, the newsgroups are essentially a group discussion.
It would be as if you're at a party having a conversation with the
people immediately around you while you're on a cell phone doing a
conference call at the same time that you're responding to emails,
IM'ing individuals AND participating in a chat room. The individuals and
groups with whom you're chatting miss out on the feedback from others
since you're the communication point.
