Hi all,
a friend has outlook 2000 on a PC but has recently added outlook 2002.
BOTH programs seem to be installed BUT now neither work. 2000 gives a
critical error and hangs - then has to be closed. Outlook 2002
persists in asking for PSTPRX.dll and despite setting up a user mail
account using the requisite settings it will not access the server.
Does anyone know whats happened. Is it cause both programs appear to
be installed at the same time or is it another issue? Any suggestions
gratefully received.

Ron

Only one version of Outlook can be installed at any one time. I'm surprised
he was able to install OL 2002.

Thankyou Brian,

Is there a resolution to this problem? He needs to keep the contacts
and email messages from 2000 and get 2002 running properly. I believe
what he did was to install Office 2002 using custom install leaving
outlook 2000. When Office 2002 installed he then had to insert the
Office 200 disc to (presumably) install outlook 2000. When that failed
to run properly (critical errors) he then installed Outlook 2002.
Sadly 2002 did not iport the contacts and mail from 2000, nor can he
create a functioning email account in 2002.
Step by step error resolution would be good if possible.

He should uninstall both OL 2002 and 2000. It may be necessary to use the
Windows Installer Cleanup tool from Microsoft to completely rid the PC of
both versions. Then he can install the version he wants. Outlook 2002 uses
exactly the same data file Outlook 2000 uses, so that won't be a problem.
It would be a good idea, though, to make a backup ot the data file before
messing around any futrther. See this:
