I have many scaned (graphic) documents created in XP Word97 (*.doc) files.
Attempting to open in Vista generates a message "UNABLE TO CONVERT GRAPHIC".
How can I open these in Vista?

Please note, you will need the full software to edit the documents.

Downloaded and installed WordViewer and the Compatibility pack - and still
can not open the documents. Trying to open a *.doc now I get "Unable to
convert graphic. Continue with document conversion?" Clicking YES many times
opens the document but without any of the scan pages (Which are *.bmp and all
work fine in XP.).

Could not find any related information in the Andre Da Costa "My Vista
Quickstart Guide"

This link takes me to a page that addresses Word 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2007
documents - Nothing about the XP Word 97 docs. Installed anyway - but it did
not solve the problem.

There is NO such thing as XP Word'97

XP was an operating System.

Word'97 was part of Microsoft Office

This is not guaranteed to work, but you could try it: Word 97 Viewer:

You might want to post your question in the follow newsgroup:

A possible solution is to install OpenOffice and and open the .docs
with it. Re-save then as .docs and re-try them in Word. Or just
carry on using OOo and dump Office :-), of course. Another good
handler of Office docs is SoftMaker (also peddled by Ashampoo)
TextMaker. Natively, it handles graphics very simply and is good to
use for all but the most complex of Word docs. D'load their current
beta for free.

THANKS to those that suggested that I install OpenOffice. It works great and
is a much better tool than the MS Works Word that is now going to be
uninstalled.
