Hi Team- we're using Exchange 2003 in our organization and are forwarding all
mail to one account for retention purposes. I archive that account to an
archive file about every two weeks. However, when I try to open that archive
on any other computer I get a permissions error, even if I log into the
computer with the exact same OS, Outlook version, and credentials as the
computer on which the .pst was created. THis is useless to me as a backup
schema if I can only open the archives on the computer which created them- is
there a better way, or does anyone know why I'm getting permissions errors?

If the archive pst is located in the default location, \Documents & Settings
grouping it may be that you need to 'take ownership'

It should be noted that MS doesnt support the use of a pst over a network as
it can lead to corruption, also if the archive is open at the time or OL on
the target system has a hook into the archive this also could corrupt it,
when you try to access it.

Actually we back up Exchange with Backup Exec, but pst archiving all the
emails that come in or out gives us extremely fast response time to
investigation requests. Problem is the file gets real big real fast.

Thanks, that's kind of it. I was trying to access the pst over the network
off of a DVD. Turns out both are no-nos. If the file is on the local C:\
drive then shazaam- I'm in.
