I'm dual booting Vista and XP (primary OS) and when I open common Office
files in Vista, that I have created in XP, they open in Read-only mode. When
displaying the the Security SSID for the file on Vista, the file shows the
unresolved SSID for my ID from XP (Account Unknown
S-1-5-21-2052111302-117609710-839522115-1003). Im using similar ID and
passwords on both systems. I can save a copy and then the Owner SSID resolves
to my ID under Vista. I can Log back into XP and open that file!
Is this a Security issue of Vista by design? Or am I going to be stuck
changing ownership, or making copies of all my shared files? Any solution
that someone might suggest would be appreciated.

Have you tried changing the ownership & permissions to "everyone".

No and I dont know why I should either - None of my files had Everyone as a
permission group under XP. And I never had to do any such change when moving
from any old MS OS to another - all the way back to 3.1. So Vista must have
some major change to the way it manages security rights. Ive changed the
rights on a few files under Vista to my Vista ID, and XP is perfectly happy
with that. It seems that there is a major upward compatibility issue -
usually its the other way around. Sorry Im not trying to dump on you but it
would be nice to see input from others with this problem since it seems to be
widespread
