I'd been using Outlook 2007 for 6 months and suddenly one day when I started
my pc (vista sp1) Outlook displayed the following message:

"CANNOT OPEN YOUR DEFAULT E-MAIL FOLDERS. ERRORS HAVE BEEN DETECTED IN THE
FILE C:\USERS\JOSEPH\APPDATA\LOCAL\MICROSOFT\OUTLOOK\OUTLOOK.PST. QUIT
OUTLOOK AND ALL MAIL-ENABLED APPLICATIONS, AND THEN USE THE INBOX REPAIR TOOL
(SCANPST.EXE) TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR ERRORS IN THE FILE. FOR MORE INFO ABOUT
THE INBOX REPAIR TOOL, SEE HELP."

The issue is that the file SCANPST.EXE is not in my PC and even when I
installed Outlook totally new again w/all the extensions it doesn't appears.
What can I do to retrieve my folders again?

You've searched to include hidden for scanpst.exe?
PS Posting in all caps makes for hard reading, and is ignored by many

Yes it is. It's in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12

I have the same problem. It is not in C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12, I have searched for outlook.pst, *.pst, scanPST.exe and I
continually get nothing. I am ready to reinstall my Outlook and lose
everything that is currently in there. Is there any other way to go so I
don't lose my files?

Are you using Office 2007? If not, then naturally scanpst won't be where I
said. What version of Office do you have?

When you searched, did you enable searching in hidden fiules and folders and
enable seearching subfolders?

Reinstalling shouldn't lose any data. However, it's best to make a copy of
your PST which should be in
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application data\Microsoft\Outlook on an XP
system or in
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook on a Vista system.

I am using Office 2007. But I figured it out after looking and scanning for
the pst files. I went to my computer programs and hit the repair software
button. Once I did that and rebooted, I searched for the pst files and they
immediately appeared. I don't know what caused the glitch, but it worked.
Thanks!
