Can only surf as Admin

Hi all,

I've got an ASUS DSL USB modem with RASPPPOE , and I can only connect
to my internet provider when I'm logged in as Administrator. Other
user profiles with lower rights can't launch the connection.

More precisely : in the « Network and Dial-up Connections » window,
the « Local Area Connection » for the modem appears to be grayed
when I'm a regular user.

However the Dial-Up Connection « Connection through USB IAD LAN
Modem » is still available, but useless if you can't activate first
the « Local Area Connection »

So far it doesn't stop me from surfing but other people in the house
may not be as careful as me when surfing as Admin!

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Fred,

Loading a dialup client (PPP or PPPoE) is frequently a problem with multiple
userids sharing a computer. The best solution is to get the PPPoE client
software off the computer. Use a NAT router with PPPoE (IOW, virtually any NAT
router).

You have broadband. Protecting the computer with a router is the responsible
solution.

Your computer will be safer. The router will block any malevolent internet
traffic. This further protects other internet users, from your becoming
infected and spreading an infection.

Your computer will run better, with the router blocking the trash infection
traffic. Any personal firewall on your computer will have less to do, because
the router will block most malevolent traffic.

If you can afford to have broadband, you can afford a router. For many reasons.

BTW, please read this article about Cross-Posting vs Multi-Posting:
http://www.uwasa.fi/~ts/http/crospost.html

And Fred, please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address
mining viruses. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a
bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - never post your address unmunged.

Chuck
