Hi Adam,
This may cause because of 2 different reasones:
1. Network Cable Cat5 or Cat6 could not be more than 92 meter long. when
longer cables get connected to LAN NIC Card, UDP packets could be sent and
receive some times, and that's why you can get IP address from DHCP Server.
but TCP Packets could not be transfered using Switches or Hubs. that's why
you can not send and receive data.
2. because Ping command is using UDP, and you still couldn't ping other
computers, it seams that your network cable was not standard. look at the
socket of the cable that you are plugging into your laptop computer, there
are 8 wires, they should be placed correctly, sometimes testers may pass but
still old LAN NIC Cards could not connect.
