I can not view workgroup computers in My Network Places

Recently I have a Vaio lap-top in which is installed XP home edition. I can get to Internet through a LAN but I can not see the other computers within the same network. Some say it is an XP bug and can be fixed by the relevant Update. I expect someone's advice. Thanks...
