In Outlook 2007, I am unable to turn off the ClearType feature. The
ClearType box is unchecked in Tools\options\mail format\editor
options\popular.

In have checked and unchecked it several times with restarts, but it seems
to make no difference.

My eyes are bad enough without haveing to look at blurry text. Please help
me turn this off.

If this is for HTML-formatted e-mails, have you tried disabling ClearType in
the web browser? Internet Options -> Advanced tab -> Multimedia section ->
"Always use ClearType for HTML".

If that doesn't work, see if disabling ClearType in your OS helps. You
didn't mention WHICH version of Windows that you use. In Windows XP,
right-click on the desktop and select Properties, or run the Display applet
in Control Panel, Appearance tab, Effects, don't use ClearType. This will
affect more than just how text appears inside of Outlook for HTML-formatted
e-mails.

Same problem here in my work pc except that I'm running Office-Outlook Prof.
2003. Around 10 days ago week we got an Office update from our IT dept. and
after that I started having "ClearType" whenever I open an email and also on
IE Explorer. I agree that it makes the text blurry and it makes me feel kind
of queasy i'm not kidding. Pretty annoying if you ask me because I didn't
select this configuration and now I can't seem to turn it off. Any suggestion
is GREATYLY appreciated.

John, I found this suggestion on another post, it worked for me:

To disable ClearType, follow these steps.

Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 1. Click Start, click Run, type
Inetcpl.cpl.
2. In the Internet Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab, and then
clear Always use ClearType for HTML under the Multimedia section, click OK
and save.

For Windows Vista:
1. Click Start, type inetcpl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then click
inetcpl.cpl in the Programs list.
2. In the Internet Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab, and then
clear Always use ClearType for HTML under the Multimedia section, click OK
and save.

Hope it works.
ML

Thank you all for your suggestions.

I have diasabled ClearType in the following locations:
MS Office -> Word Options – uncheck: “Always use ClearType”
Desktop -> Properties -> Appearance tab -> Effects "use Standard"
IE7 Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Multimedia – uncheck: “Always
use ClearType for HTML”
MS Outlook -> Tools -> Options -> MailFormat -> Editor Options ->
Popular – uncheck: “Always use ClearType”

None of these seem to work. It is only Outlook that is running clear type,
and only partially. The Outlook screens are all in ClearType, while the
e-mail body text and dialog boxes are all in standard type.

I am using Windows XP SP2, with MS office 2007 (I can not find the details)

Are you using a 3rd party theme manager, like WindowBlinds or some other
tweaker tool that modifies the fonts?

Same problem happen when you run Outlook in its safe mode which does not
load any installed and enabled add-ons?

outlook.exe /safe

No, no theme managers.

However, I think I found a solution! I found a registry key edit to change
the system font as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes

I Changed key “MS Shell Dlg” from “Microsoft Sans Serif” to “Times New
Roman”, which changed some programs, but did not change the Outlook font
face, it did however get rid of cleartype.

I then changed the key “MS Shell Dlg” to “MS Sans Serif” and the Clear type
stayed away. I am not sure why this worked, but it seems to be holding.
