Hi,
I recently got a message from I Tunes that an update needed to be
installed, so I installed it and now I can not send or receive any email in
Outlook. I have no idea what to do and would appreciate any advise. Thanks

What happens when you try?
I doubt ITunes would be a factor.

Same think happened to me after spending days getting new iPhone set up.
Have not received or sent emails in Outlook for days. When I try the
Send'receive button, I get a message from "connector" saying "an unknown
error was encounterd during a synchoronization operation with the service.
some of the items might not have been synchoronized."

Are you showing any ITunes add-in in Outlook? If you are then disable it.

I guess I'm not in the right place to ask questions, because I don't know
how to check OUtlook for iTunes ad-ins. Thanks anyway for the answer.

One other piece of evidence makes me suspect a virus: Following a
trouble-shooter yesterday, I hit STart - Run, and already there in the window
for the program name was "outlook/safe" and on a drop-down below it was line
after line of gibberish -- nothing that I had ever typed in there. So some
outside hand has fooled with my Outlook.

Could this be resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook?

(fyi I'm using Hotmail to keep up on email.)

Depends on the version of Outlook.
2007: Tools - Trust Center - Add-ins.
2003: Tools - Options - Other - Advanced - Add-ins.

That just means that outlook in safe mode was the last thing you ran in
Start - Run.

Actually, Outlook has nothing to do with Start - Run. That's purely
windows. Lots of things could have happened. Maybe you, or someone else,
accidently did a Control-V when start-run was active and it dumped the text
there. Or maybe something got corrupted in the registry, which is where
that most recently used list is stored, iirc.

Unlikely. Things are seldom fixed through that that couldn't be fixed
easier. You could do a Detect and Repair from the Help menu. You could
also try creating a new profile.

You could also explain what exactly happens when you try to send/receive
mail. Are you getting errors? Does it seem to complete successfully like
it used to but nothing actually comes in/goes out?

Follow-up to the last post on this: there is an "'outlook Itunes sync addin'
addin" (might be named "ITunes Outlook Addin" under com add-ins) that seems
to be causing this. Disable it and you should be ok.
