Your description lacks some essential detail... I would like to know ; What drives are listed in "My Computer" ? In the "Explorer", "My Documents" folder, right-click any empty area and choose "Properties" - Is the "hidden" attribute box checkmarked ? Press the "Win key" + "R" together - the "Run" box appears - type in : diskmgmt.msc and click [ok] What volumes (drives) are listed in "Disk Management" ? Type : cmd.exe into the "Run" box - At the Command Prompt type : dir c:\ ...and then; dir d:\ dir e:\ etc., etc.,....which drives are present.? There is a registry setting that can hide selected drives. You can make sure this setting is not hiding any drives by opening "Regedit.exe" and deleting the following value [and *only* this value] (or setting it to 0 [zero]) : [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoDrives"=- *N.B. There's also a similar-named value under this key : "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" which has nothing to do with showing / hiding drives in Explorer. === I would, with honesty, describe myself as an "enthusiast", as I know most regular users of this group are twice as knowledgeable as me. However, it took me a while before even I learnt the most important thing in diagnosing computer problems : - to include as much detail in your explanation as possible! You may not know what any of it means, but someone will, plus, as you and I don't know what's important and what isn't, you should include EVERYTHING (time allowing). == Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :-) "Phil" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:20BD1985-8C6D-4321-B68C-(E-Mail Removed)... >I am using win xp sp3. If I click on my docs from the start menu i can see all my downloads, when i
go into explorer, on the left side (folder side) they are not showing. But they are showing on the right side. But i can not access them through explorer when trying to attch the files to build a pebuilder disc. hidden box is not checked off
drives-drive 1 is c: & d: (partitioned). drive 2 is g:. Drives d&g are totally empty as i have not put anything on them yet. did cmd.exe c shows 2 files 6 dir 214,123,130,880 bytes free. it was a 500gig hard drive partitioned in half. d: & g: say no files found. I set the hkey-current user value to 0 Phil "Tim Meddick" wrote: > > Your description lacks some essential detail... > > I would like to know ; > > What drives are listed in "My Computer" ? > > In the "Explorer", "My Documents" folder, right-click any empty area > and choose "Properties" - Is the "hidden" attribute box checkmarked ? > > Press the "Win key" + "R" together - the "Run" box appears - type in : > diskmgmt.msc and click [ok] What volumes (drives) are listed in "Disk > Management" ? > > Type : cmd.exe into the "Run" box - At the Command Prompt type : > dir c:\ ...and then; dir d:\ dir e:\ etc., etc.,....which > drives are present.? > > > There is a registry setting that can hide selected drives. I am STILL a bit "hazy" as to exactly what your problem actually is...
As far as I can tell, it's that you while you can "see" the drive in Explorer, when you are "browsing for files" to create your PE builder disk, there are certain folders you know are there - but do not show up - Is that right ?? From what you have already said, my advice would be to go into ; "Control Panel" - "Folder Options" - "View" (tab) ....and set "Hidden files and folders" to "Show hidden files and folders", plus, un-check the box marked "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" below it. That may do the trick. But, as I said in my last post, all I can go on is what you've written in yours - and I could easily have mis-interpreted it!! So, if I have got it wrong, please re-post and correct me as to what the "crux" is of your problem... == Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :-) "Phil" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:8B0EC675-9379-4E1A-A910-(E-Mail Removed)... > hidden box is not checked off > drives-drive 1 is c: & d: (partitioned). drive 2 is g:. that is exactly what the problem is. I tried the show hidden o/s files also
along with show hidden files and folders. No luck. Could you do me a favour ?
Open Explorer *inside* one of these folders that won't show up when you try and browse for it in a program like "PEbuilder" - you said you could do that (I think). Then press the "Prnt Scrn" button and paste the result into MS Paint - then save it. Finally, either if you can attach it or paste the picture into a post - I will be able to see it (some others may not, depends on how they view posts). Or, post it (free to use) on http://twitpic.com/ and then quote the picture's url here... If none of the above is possible (or, even if you can) also, quote the exact pathnames of the problem folders - it's quite likely that there is some common denominator that will give us a clue what is happening here. == Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :-) "Phil" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news DCBA460-0371-4F13-9137-(E-Mail Removed)...> that is exactly what the problem is. Sorry, it's my fault if it wasn't clear, when you send your next post to
