can not run local files with ie6.0 (ie. d:/image.jpg) when runing a remote site

Can not run local files from a cd-rom/drive from a web page
that is on a remote server. The Link works in opera
thought. The path is correct but ie 6.0 ignores it (local
machine is runnung xp).

The links work in ie 5 on windows 2000 and millenium
edition.
