Hello,

I have this error message when I opened my database. I have seen that in the
help about and I see that that document: filename.mdb was disabled.
The document filename.mdb caused a serious error the last time it was
opened. Would you
like to continue opening it?"

I tried to enable it but the same error message still occured.

Let me tell you the storry, before that I have the file name: thumb.ldb in
my database folder, and I tried to delete it to recylcebin, it says that it
is a systemfile. but since I do not feel it is my file, I go on to delete it.
Anyone knows what is thumb.ldb, and who put it to my folder. It seems the
error comes after I throw the thumbs.ldb file.

Thanks for any help, this is for my church database.

Frank, I hope you have a good backup. This error message suggests that the
database is seriously corrupted. It may or may not be recoverable. See
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm for a thorough discussion of
corruption, its causes and cures.

The .ldb file is perfectly normal and correct. It's the "locking" file created
automatically when you open a database, and deleted when you close it
normally. It keeps track of who is currently logged into the database and what
objects they are using, so other users won't interfere.

In this case it was not deleted because you didn't exit Access with the close
button - my guess is that at some point your computer was rebooted when Access
was open, or in some other way you crashed out rather than exiting normally.
This can itself corrupt a database, or it can be a cause of corruption.

Yes.. I have the backup, I save it to my C:\ and run my executable file (mdb). but the same error message still occured.

The odd thing John, when I tried to run my Inno Setup, a prgram to create the express install, the MDE files can work perfectly.

Could you please what goes wrong?. I want the MDB. to work, so that I can keep improving in developing my database.

See if you can recover your file by creating a new .mdb file, and then
importing all objects into it. I give explicit instructions on how to do this
on the bottom half of page 3, of a Word document that I call Access Links.

Are you sure the file extension was ".ldb" and not just ".db"? It would
*only* have the .ldb file extension if you had a .mdb file in the same folder
named thumb.mdb, which I find highly unlikely. Not only that, but a .ldb
(locking database) file is not a system file, but a .db file is a system file:

Tom,

Yes...the extention is only .db to be exactly the name of the file is thumbs.db, when I tried to delete it it says this is a system file yes..you are right there is a message saying that.

I prefer no to change the name of the file Tom, I have called it Hahomion and the back end is Hahomion_be. If I changed it while I have distributed the same database to many churches, I have difficulty to give them upgrade. Because I keep improving fron end which is in MDE, and then I sent it to them to replace the old ones.

Or is it possible I renamed it to be Hahomiondo, then if all works normally, I renamed it again to Hahomion?.

The problem is, even though I run my backup, because normally I have a bakcup in my flash disk, then I copied to my C drive, and run my Hahomion, but the same error is still occur.

I do not knnow, maybe I need to tell youa all what happened before this crash. There is "recycle" file name in my folder which is looked like shaded. I also throw it out.

Also I exprienced because my employee mate beside me inadvertnety hit my flash disk, then my flash disk that contained the programs also for backup out of order, but when she tried to open it in her compter suddenly it can work, so I copy it to my new flash disk.

Or is it the Jet file is not complete in the office, beause some times I work my churchdatabase at home and in the office.

thumbs.db is the file that keeps track of the "thumbnail" images on your
desktop. It has *NOTHING WHATSOEVER* to do with your database; deleting it did
not damage the database, restoring it will not help your database.

Renaming a .mdb or .mde file should not affect how it works; of course if you
rename the backend file, you will need to relink the frontend. But changing
the frontend filename should not have any effect.

That would suggest, unfortunately, that the database was corrupt before it was
backed up. I would be leery of using flash drives and *relying* on them for
backup; if you do, you must always scrupulously use the "remove hardware
safely" tool in the systray to be sure that the file is completely
transferred.

In that case, try creating a new empty .mdb file and import everything from
this .mdb file, as suggested on Tony's website.

Does Inno Setup create a .mde file from your existing .mdb file?

I have no idea what this file might be. Is it the same name as your database?
What was actually the filename? Which folder? The same folder as the database?

You'll have to explain this! "Hit"? What does the order of files have to do
with anything? Do you mean that it *can* work or that it *cannot* work?

And I do not know what you mean by "the Jet file". If you're working in design
view of the database on several computers, you should be sure that you have
the same version and same service packs of Microsoft Access on all computers;
you may be able to go back and forth between versions but it's always a bit
risky!
