Can not open files on the network

I have recently loaded the XP Upgrade on 4 Dell Dimension
8100's. They are all 1.3 ghz, 128 mb ram, FAT32
machines. After loading XP Word, Excel, etc are running
real slow. Also, files on network shares seem to take
forever to come up. The network server is a Dell
PowerEdge running Windows 2000 SP3, 1ghz and 256mb of
ram. Once they finally do come up it is almost
impossible to save the file. It always comes up with
file in use or some other reason that it can not resave
the file. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Carl,

RE: "impossible to save the file. It always comes up with file in use or some other
reason"

Sounds like this may be the Opportunistic Locking (OpLocks) problem that applies to
networks running a Windows 2000 SP3 Domain Controller with Windows XP SP1 clients.
