I am able to use the regular Windows Logon. I have a user password because
it is required by the WHS. Recently I tried to logon to the system in Safe
Mode and I learned that as soon as I type the first letter of my password the
system reboots. I went back to normal mode and I remove the password. I
tried to logon to Safe Mode and the system reboots.

I can not logon as an Administrator or on my regular account in Safe Mode.
Otherwise my Windows XP MCE SP3 seems to be working correctly.

Any suggestions?

Hello,

We need more information. You will need to disable the Automatic Restart in
normal mode. Here's how:

Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced > (Startup and Recovery) Settings
> UNCHECK 'automatically restart' > OK > OK

Now you should get the proper blue screen. Post back the information
reported there and we can assist you better

Yes, I had previously unchecked that option, but not blue screen. The system
reboots anyway.

I have recently recovered from a similar problem. I did a System Restore to
a point where Safe Mode worked then looked at what new programs had been
installed since then. I found that version 6 of a 3rd party backup program
was the cause (I suspect that it installed a driver that Safe Mode spits the
dummy on), and further tests showed that simply uninstalling the backup
program resolved the issue.

I took a while because I went back several versions of restore file.
Actually I had not installed any new programs for quite sometime. However, I
did re-installed SP3 a few weeks ago.

The system restore did not solve the problem with loging in Safe Mode. It
appears to have a time limit. I checked to make sure but the system reboots
even if I do not type any characters.

Any other suggestions? I still would like to login in Safe Mode. Someday I
may have to perform a System Restore in Safe Mode and as of now I can not do
that.

Does the system reboot or just not let you login?

Why do you think a System Restore would solve the login problem?

What problem do you have that you think you need to use SR or Safe
Mode?

SR is not a time machine and does not solve everything (I have never
used it except once per system to test to be sure it works) and if you
don't know what the real problem is and fix it, you will probably have
it again.

If you do not know the Administrator password, you cannot login in
Safe Mode - Safe is the operative word. Only an Administrator can
change this password (or clear it). Is that you?

System Restore has nothing to do with the ability to enter Safe Mode.
That choice is made before Windows begins to even load.

The thread is getting kind of long, but the questions you asked were answered
in previous post.

The reason I tried the System Restore was because somebody "Jose" suggested
it before, he solved a similar problem that way. For me it did not work.

I wrote my first computer program in 1963 and I have built four PC's and has
installed and maintained Windows 95, 98, SE, 2000, XP, XP Pro. I am the
Admin., this is a system at home. And I know when the decision to load Safe
Mode is.

At least Jose gave me a suggestion that I had not tried, the suggestion from
the Singapore Computer Service I had already done two weeks before I posted
the first item.
