I'm not able to delete any folders from my Outlook. I receive an error
telling me that I don't have permissions to delete the folders. If right
click and check the properties, I don't see a permissions tab. Even if I
right click the Personal Folder there I don't see anything that would allow
me to check permissions. I am the administrator on my machine.

What is the size of the pst-file?
Have you scanned it for errors already with scanpst.exe?
See http://www.msoutlook.info/question/19

Sorry, that should have been;
http://www.msoutlook.info/question/77

If you are using an ANSI formatted pst-file and you are reaching the 2GB
limit, then you'll need to use the pst2gb tool which you can find here;

There are no folders in Outlook. "Folders" is used to refer to the tree
structure shown for the hierarchy of records in the message store.
Those tree nodes do not exist as folders in the file system for your
hard disk. The entire message store along with its tree hierarchy (aka
"folders") for Outlook is contained within a .pst file.

You don't need permissions on tree nodes (folders) in Outlook. If you
are using an NT-based version of Windows, you are supposed to be using
separate logins for each user so each user is logging under their own
account. That means each user (under a different account) has their own
separate .pst file and the file system then might have permissions
available for access to that file (if you use NTFS as FAT doesn't have
file/folder permissions). If you are sharing the same login (never a
smart setup) then you can password protect the .pst file. Right-click
on the root tree node of your message store (aka the "Outlook Today" or
"<yourname> profile" folder), Properties, Advanced, and set a password
for that .pst file. Then when you run Outlook, it will prompt for that
password when it loads that .pst file.

Robert,

My .pst file is only about 400MB. I don't know if my .pst file is ANSI
formated or not, how will I be able to determine that?

I scanned it using the scanpst.exe. There were errors, but fixing them did
not resolve my problem.

I can delete the files within the folders, but not the folders themselves.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Run scanpst.exe a couple of times against your pst-file and see if it still
comes up with errors. If it does or if it is still not fixed after that, I'd
recommend starting with a new pst-file and transfer the content.
Step-by-step instructions for that can be found here;

Yes, I tried running it a couple of times. The second time it came back
clean. I was thinking perhaps I would need to do exactly what you suggested,
create a new .pst file.

Thanks, I'll give that a try and hopefully, that will solve all my issues.

Which folders are they and how did you create them?

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply; sorry I wasn't able to get back to you sooner.

There’s nothing special about these folders. Three of them are subfolders
of my Inbox; others are just normal folders within the Personal Folders tree.

I was doing a little research within the forum group and see this is a
common theme. I was just reading a thread that has been ongoing for over a
year and a half. But none of the threads have a resolution.

Any more idea's?

Thanks.

Daryl
