when I got to edit, then delete deleted messages, I get the message "do I
really want to permanately delete these messages?", I click yes........but
they wont delete.

If any message can't be deleted, apply this Microsoft fix:

Although that article only mentions Outbox, it works for all mail folders.

Incidentally, that fix was also included in Vista's SP1, so if you haven't
installed that, you are way overdue.
