When I try to burn my .mp3 files captured with my new ATI AIW Radeon
9600 FM radio, Nero tells me the file format is not supported. Only
allows one file format for recording:

MPEG 1.0 layer 2
224kbit, 30482 frames
44100Hz Stereo

I really bought the card to be able to timeshift FM and burn to audio
CD, may or may not be a work around...

You appear to be using an unusually compression at 224 kbps; it is
likely that Nero wants a multiple of 64 kbps. I'd consider decompressing
to WAV and trying that. If it works and if your capture options permit,
try 256 kbps instad of 224.

I'm not familiar with their radio, but I note that ATI historically has
used their own codecs, often versions not compatible with anyone else's.
That's true for both AVI an MPEG1 on the plain Radeon video card - and a
devastating problem in one of my systems. Still, you should be able to
decompress to WAV and they will not require any ATI codec.

Obviously Nero cannot import/decompress such files - they're not exactly MP3
format audio, MP3 being MPEG 1.0 Layer 3.
I just tried adding a VCD compliant audio-only file (224kbit/s 44100Hz
stereo MP2 format) to a Nero AudioCD compilation and got the same error
message - format not supported.
Strange really when Nero can import video files and then convert them TO VCD
standard video and audio...

What software are you using to capture these FM broadcasts?
Can you select a different format to capture in?
Ideally you want to capture the FM broadcasts in a format that Nero can
import into an AudioCD compilation.

If this is not possible with the capture software that you're using then can
you use other software with the ATI hardware that can capture in an
acceptable format?

If capturing the FM broadcasts in another format isn't possible then you'll
be looking at converting the MP2 audio captures to standard WAV format and
then importing these WAV files into a Nero AudioCD compilation for the best
quality audio cd.
You may already have the software necessary to do this - any decent audio
editor should be able to do the conversion, as will LAME and no doubt CDex
too.

ATI's FM Tuner.

Yes, with a timer and be able to change the channels while out of
town. Have been looking for a solution for a long time.

Software would need to change the tuner channel. Looks like the ATI
software only..

I thought this would be a simple solution. I don't see myself
converting files to wave before burning. i guess it makes it possible.
I may just yank the card out and go back to recording from one channel
while out of town.

Try burning with another program; Exact Audio Copy will take that
bitrate and is cardware (essentially free). ECDC and WinOnCD accept it,
but you have to buy them. Those are all I currently run on my primary
system, but I suspect that Feurio will be happy with the bitrate as well.

(And, yes, I say they'll work because I just ran tests. I still don't
know why they picked that bitrate.)

You are correct. MP3 is shorthand (and the extension) for Motion Picture
Experts Group audio Layer 3. IIRC (and I'm not inspired to check it
out), MPEG1 uses Layer 2 - MP2 - for audio.

Funny how ATI gives it an .mp3 extension. I'm liking this card less
and less. especially the whiny fan.

Will go back to using my reciever to record one channel while out of
town, and probably yank the 9600 AIW.
