Well, "sometimes it allows me to access shares and sometimes not", depending
upon the circumstances of "sometimes not", may be a browser problem (NOT
Internet Explorer) - read the article.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, but there are other possibilities too. What
firewalls are disabled? What about antivirus or antiworm? Read with an open
