Ok....I switched servers and while I'm not having any problems accessing the
new server on my xppro computer with fp2003, my son, on his laptop xp home
editon is not able to access the server. In his version of fp2003 under
Tools/Site Settings - instead of having:

Web Name - Jim
Web Server - http://localhost
FPSE ver. 5.0.2.6790
server ver: microsofit IIS/5.1

as >I< do on my xp pro

he has:

Web Name - Jim
File Location
FPSE 6.0.2.6551
Server ver: gredyed out

Is this a normal reading between xp pro and home edition? His not being able
to access the server has only been since I switched servers (although both
servers had fpse) - I'm on 1and1 now and am pleased with their
service....except the fact that he can't figure out how to access it??

any help would be appreciated

He would have work locally with a disk-based copy, the default is:
C:\Documents and Settings\<login name>\My Documents\My Webs

or he would work directly on the live/remote server via FP (if the server has the FP extensions).

ok - it does open from c:\D&S......\My webs

so that part is ok.... its just that it won't allow him to publish - will
have to see what the error msg is again - but will tell him about working
live on it.

Once he has the site open locally on FP, then he would use File Menu | Publish Site and enter
http://www.thedomainname.com

here's what finally worked - he did a File/Open Site and put in the
http://www.domain.com once it was opened - he published it to his local
drive ... then he closed it all - opened - file/open site from local drive
and bingo - could FINALLY publish to remote site!! whoohoo!!

NOW....one other question - he's tried several times to upload an audio file
to go along with his pp presentation file - but it keeps timing out - is
there anyway to set something so that it won't time out? its a huge file -
and he has plenty of room on the server 100,000 meg -

thanks
Pam

Many server hosts have FP set to the default of 1MB max for upload file size
- for very large media files it is often faster to upload using a FTP program
