can no longer see my D drive

My d drive is a combo cd rw and dvd player(Philips dvd+-rw, DVD 8701). I
cannot see it in windows explorer. Further checking gives me an error 41.
Computer no longer knows that I have an installed drive. Drivers are there
and current.

Philips web page useless.

I can see the C drive, and if I plug in a flah drive, the computer sees that
also.

I have not been inside the machine. The other day, I did do a malware scan
and deleted some files. Also, I used a utility program to clean my registry
and my son deleted the files from the recycle bin. I don't know if the
malware scan or the registry cleanup caused the problem. I have used both
before with no trouble.

I'm thinking a registry key was deleted. I do not have a Windows backup
disk, and none of my restore points work. I have a Dell dimension 3000.
Warranty expired.

Is there an easy way to fix this? Is there a registry key that I can add?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Try this:

1- turn off pc, disconnect data cable of the CD drive, turn pc on, let
Windows desktop appear.
2- restart pc, go to bios (press del key while starting pc), and set
everything to default
3- turn off pc again. connect the data cable, turn it on, wait for windows
to recognize the drive. Now it should work properly, I hope !

good luck

Hello Kelly,

It worked like a charm. This absolutely made my day.

I can't thank you enough. I think I speak for everyone who has computer
issues when I say we are glad tech savvy people such as you know what to do
and spend your time and expertise helping the rest of us.

Peace.
