Is it possible to move my xp install from G:\ (ntds, primary, system
partition) to replace win98se that is on C:\ (primary, xp boot, fat32
partition) using ntbackup and the FILE and SETTINGS wizard - or - will i need
to completely reinstall everything including all patches, activations, and
genuine advantage plus user application software.

The reason is that i need more space. Drives D:\ and E:\ are logical in
extended partition also fat32 (these stay the same and can be converted and
restored from tape backups).

At the time, win98se was my main op sys and without vendor support it is
falling apart slowly but surely. C'est la vi....

You'll need to perform a "clean install" of Windows XP.

If I read you correctly and G is a seperate drive you *may* be able to use
Acronis to clone G to C.
There is a fully functioning trial. Follow the instructions, particularly
removing G before you re boot
