I take an e-mail from junk folder into the inbox, read it and try to file it
away. I get an error message that it has already been moved or deleted and
access has been denied. This is very frustrating, as I have to keep old
e-mail in the inbox.

Use scanpst.exe to check your pst-file for errors and then try again.
