how can i make a field "required"?

i want to make the "contacts" field on a journal entry form a required field.
in other words, users should not be able to save and close the journal entry
unless they select a contact.
is this possible with Outlook 2003? or do we need some VB scripts to do that?

You'll need scripts or VBA to force it.

where and how should we insert this code?
i am not a programmer actually.
any source you could recommend?
cause i think this should be a fairly simple code.
